Break an expensive course into parts a learner can afford. Define named installments with their own prices, link each one to the sections it opens, and let learners pay as they go, all at once, or on a recurring schedule.
Switch a course to the installments pricing model and build the list: each installment has a title such as Module 1 or Term 2 and its own price. The course price is the total of the installments, so a learner can always see what the programme costs in full. There is no fixed number of installments, so a short course can have two and a year-long program can have twelve.
Attach installments to the sections of your course they pay for. When a learner opens a lesson in a section, the platform checks whether they have paid an installment covering it. If they have not, they are told which installment is required rather than being shown a dead end. Sections with no installment attached stay open to everyone enrolled, which is how you keep an introduction or orientation section free.
Three options sit on the pricing model, and you decide which to offer: - **Pay in full**, so a learner who prefers to settle up front can buy the whole course in one transaction. - **Pay as you learn**, where the learner buys each installment as they reach it. See Pay as You Learn. - **Recurring payments**, where the installments are charged automatically on a frequency you set, which must fit inside the course's own duration. Pay as you learn and recurring payments are mutually exclusive, because one puts the learner in control of when they pay and the other takes that decision away.
A course's pricing model cannot be switched once it has students enrolled. That protects people who bought under one arrangement from having it changed underneath them, and it means the installment structure is a decision to make before you launch rather than after.
Bill a programme by term or semester the way your finance office already does, with each term's payment opening that term's material. Students who fall behind on payment lose access to the next block rather than the whole course.
Price a long preparation course in stages so the up-front commitment is small. Candidates who only need the first half stop paying after it, and those who continue simply pay the next installment.
Learners commit to the first installment, not the whole price.
Each installment opens the sections it was priced for.
Recurring installments are collected on the schedule you set.
