Issue a certificate when a learner earns it, with the grade they achieved on it and a unique issue number anyone can verify without logging in.
Certificates are driven by the grade boundaries you define on a course. Each band, such as Pass, Merit, and Distinction, covers a percentage range and can point at its own certificate template. A learner's earned credits percentage places them in a band, and that band decides which certificate they receive. A Distinction and a Pass produce visibly different documents rather than the same page with a different word on it.
Create certificate templates, upload your own background design, and publish the ones you want in use. Mark one as your default. A template can be enabled or disabled, and a default template cannot be enabled while it is still a draft, which stops a half-finished design being issued to a cohort. Certificates are switched on per platform, and you can allow custom templates alongside the built-in ones.
An issued certificate is a record: it carries a unique issue number, the grade achieved, credits allocated, credits earned, and the resulting percentage. Learners request their certificate from the course once they have completed it, and it is generated and made available to them. Reissues are governed by a per-course limit and a check on what qualifies for one, so a certificate is not something a learner can regenerate indefinitely.
Every certificate has a public verification page. An employer, regulator, or admissions officer enters the certificate ID and sees the certificate number, issue date, course title and duration, the publicly listed instructors, the recipient's name, and the enrollment and completion dates. No account and no login is required, which is what makes a certificate worth anything outside your own platform.
Alongside certificates, transcripts can be enabled for your platform and allowed per course, so a learner who needs a record of what they studied rather than a single completion document has one.
Issue graded completion documents that map onto the classifications your institution already awards, and give students something a prospective employer can verify independently.
The verification page is the point. A credential that a third party can check without contacting you is what makes it credible, and reissue limits keep the issuance record defensible.
Give volunteers and community participants formal recognition that carries weight outside your organization, at no incremental cost per certificate.
Evidence that mandated training was completed, by whom, and when, with an issue number and dates on every record and public verification for anyone who needs to confirm it.
